Overnight.

My baby has found love.

Somehow, I know for sure that it is forever love. Things happen, yeah. People drift apart. But...this seems very concrete, right here. And I'm delighted.

My baby is an odd bird. A beautiful, raven-haired, milky-skinned beauty with a wide smile, great humor and countless talents. Her love is a tall, lanky boy (just a few days younger than her) with a deep voice, a honky, endearing laugh, sweet blue eyes and a mouth that turns up at the corner in a curl when he smiles, which is often. He, like her, has great humor...but he is too "new" to me to show me that fully. He's been very polite.

These two have been besties for going on eight years, among a group of other kids. My girl has talked to this boy every day. Every. Day. They are in that group setting with the other friends, but they speak to each other, mostly, and privately as well. And then, after seven years of this, she decided to go on those two dates that she went on, back in May. It turns out, she went on those dates because she was trying to shake her feelings for this boy who lives so far away. Because obviously, "it can never be". Because he never said he feels "that way" about her, and he doesn't know she feels "that way" about him, and she is certain that even if he did, he is too practical to turn his life upside down and join her here where we live.

Those dates she went on shook this boy.
This boy knew he better man up and move on it.
This boy DOES feel "that way" about my girl.
This boy DID fly to meet her.
They had four days of "best friend time",
He sat three feet from her on our couch.
They laughed their heads off and made prank calls.
They explored nifty attractions where we live.
They tried Kava and both wanted to spew.
They got us a Christmas tree and decorated it.
Throughout, not a word of romance was uttered, by either of them.
He was terrified to say anything about his feelings though his flight to her said much.
She IS beautiful, and while he is handsome and SO charming,
he must feel he isn't, because he was sure that all the OBVIOUS signals he was seeing/feeing/hearing COULDN'T BE RIGHT.
He feared if he voiced anything of his feeling for her,
she would reject him and he would demolish their friendship.
The risk was just too great.
It came time to leave.
She drove him to the airport.
When it was time to part, she hugged him tight and said "I do love you, you know." He said he loved her, too...but STILL, was unsure if it was platonic, or what.
(MY GOD the thickness)
They both cried.
She drove home from the airport, crying. Pulled into our driveway 15 minutes later...and sent him this message:

"I've been in love with you since I was 16."

He lost his mind.
I'm sure he kicked himself within an inch of his life, because he could've been kissing her and hugging her ALL THIS TIME.
He responded, in essence, "SAME! SAME!! SAME!!!!"
(but with much more satisfying verbiage)

He's coming back in January.
That's when that first kiss will happen.

Further, he'll be moving here as soon as he can.

It seems fast...but it's nearly a decade in the making,..two best friends. Literally, absolute best friends...
the way any real and lasting love should begin.

I'm as happy as a little giiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiirl. <3
